Moto XXX Round 9 Race Report: St. Louis, Missouri
The city of St. Louis, Missouri and the Edward Jones Dome played host to round nine of the Amp&squot;d Mobile AMA Supercross series this past weekend. Conditions outside of the dome saw 20 degree weather and some light snow fall while the racing inside the dome was heating up.
Missing from action in the evening program was the 952 machine of Yoshihide Fukudome. Dome tweaked his ankle in an early practice crash and despite trying to ride through the pain was unable to place himself inside the top 40. However, Dome is already back on the bike and looking forward to his first trip to Daytona International Speedway this coming weekend.
Kyle Lewis started the night off in heat race one and looked forward to the nice long start straight in front of him. Unfortunately, Kyle didn&squot;t get the best jump on the line and was forced to pick his was through the pack. After a strong ride, Lewis crossed the line 14th and was forced to ride the dreaded LCQ.
Josh Summey got a strong start in heat number two and leaped into the second straightaway sand section sitting in third position. After battling with former Moto XXX rider Timmy Ferry for a couple of laps, Josh settled in to a quick pace and held his own for the eight lap race. At the checkered flag, Josh would cross the line fifth securing his spot in the main event.
As Kyle Lewis picked his spot on the start line for the LCQ he knew what he had to do, get the holeshot. And that is exactly what he did! "Lucky" held it wide open down the long start straight and took the early lead in the short six lap race. Even though one rider was able sneak by, Kyle rode a smart race and nabbed the final transfer spot into the twenty rider main event.
For the main event, Josh lined up just inside the dog house while Kyle took to the outside of the start gate. Both riders got good jumps on the gate and looked to be in good position rounding turn one. Josh was able to sneak by a group of guys in the sand section, narrowly miss a crash in turn two and finish the first lap sitting in fourth position. Kyle didn&squot;t fare so well and once again had some work to do. After putting in five quick laps Josh made a small mistake and ended up on the ground just before the finish line. He got back going again but was now in 18th with 11 laps to go. Meanwhile, Lewis kept charging working his way up to 14th position where he would ultimately finish. Josh continued to put in quick laps and work his way through the pack until lap 18 when he made another mistake and hit the dirt. Two laps later Josh would cross the line in 20th position. After the race Josh commented: "I was happy to make the main event this weekend and I was pleased with how I rode in the heat race. Unfortunately a couple of mistakes in the main event kept me from getting the finish I know I&squot;m capable of."
Daytona Beach, Florida is the place to be this week as motorcycle enthusiasts take over the city and the infield of Daytona International Speedway will be transformed into the toughest Supercross track of the year. All three Moto XXX riders are looking forward to posting some very strong finishes this Friday at the famed speedway. See you there!
