Moto XXX Round 4 Race Report: San Francisco
The rains held off long enough for team rider Josh Summey to put in another strong finish at the fourth round of the AMA Supercross series held in San Francisco, California. Friday rains kept the track covered and everyone wondering if the weather would break long enough to get some racing in. With an abbreviated practice schedule, Josh and Kyle wasted little time putting in some fast laps and securing their spots in the 40 rider field.
Heat race one got off the line with Kyle Lewis rounding the first turn in 7th position. Kyle rode tough putting in some fast laps early on before making some untimely mistakes. A couple of late race passes saw Lewis drop outside of the top nine, ultimately finishing in 11th and missing the main event by two spots.
Josh Summey lead off heat race two with a top 10 start and proceeded to work his way up. After narrowly missing downed bikes and riders Josh rode smart and transferred straight to the main event with a solid 6th place finish.
The LCQ saw Lewis charging into the first turn with another strong start. After quickly moving into 2nd place, things were looking good for the veteran Moto XXX rider. However, a couple of bobbles on the tough and rutted track resulted in Lewis missing the main by two positions.
As the Supercross class took their parade lap it looked like the weather would cooperate long enough to get in the final race of the evening. Shortly after the riders lined up the gate dropped sending the pack wide open into turn one. Josh got a quick jump and looked to be in good shape heading down the start straight. Unfortunately, a couple of riders came together sending one to the ground leaving Josh no where to go. After quickly getting around the downed rider Summey found himself in 19th place with his work cut out for him. Josh put his head down, made some quick passes and by the half-way mark was sitting 12th with a pack of riders in his sights. For the next 10 laps Josh rode strong eventually passing another rider on his way to an 11th place finish. Comments Josh: "I felt good out there. With all of the rain they&squot;ve had up here the last couple of days the track got pretty rough and rutted out. It seemed like a lot of people were going down all over the track so you really had to focus on picking good lines and staying consistent. I&squot;m looking forward to next weekend and getting back into the top 10."
With another strong finish in the premier Supercross class, Summey is gaining momentum and moving his way up. He now sits 15th overall and is looking forward to the series&squot; third and final visit to Angel&squot;s stadium next weekend in Anaheim, California. See you there!
