Moto XXX Round 2 Race Report: Phoenix, Arizona
Team Moto XXX started to heat up as the temperatures dropped in Phoenix. Round 2 of the AMA Supercross series kicked off in the usually warm city of Phoenix, Arizona where, at race time, riders were greeted with temperatures in the low 40s.
Heat one opened up with Kyle Lewis rounding the first turn in 11th position. Lewis was able to pass a couple of riders early placing himself in a qualifying position by the half way mark. Kyle was looking strong until a late race charge by Jacob Marsack bumped Lewis out of qualifying position ultimately crossing the line in 10th place missing the cut by one spot.
After posting a 13th fastest lap time, Josh Summey got off the line in heat 2 battling a mid-pack start. After working his was into qualifying position Summey went down trying to get by a slower rider in one of the slick rhythm sections. The crash took Summey out of qualifying position and into the LCQ.
The LCQ started off with a patented holeshot from Kyle Lewis while Summey struggled with another mid-pack start. After a strong ride and some pressure from Jason Thomas, "Lucky" was able to hold onto the lead and give Moto XXX their first podium appearance of 2007. Unfortunately, more bad luck plagued Josh as he was only able to charge his way up into 5th position.
Kyle Lewis got a quick jump off the gate and looked poised to grab another holeshot until another rider crossed over his line forcing him to back off as the pack rounded turn one. Lewis was just about to crack the top 10 before another rider ran into him resulting in a crash. Fortunately for Lewis, a 2nd lap crash by David Vuillemin forced the AMA to throw the red flag restarting the race after only 3 laps. The restart wasn&squot;t so Lucky for the 23 machine as Lewis was shuffled back in the pack and was forced to work his was up. After some strong laps, Lewis was able to move into 12th place at the half way mark before ultimately settling for 16th as the check flag flew. "It felt good to get back into the main event after last weekend. I&squot;m still not 100% after my crash in Vancouver but I&squot;m getting quicker and stronger every weekend." commented Lewis. Even though this is an improvement for the team over round 1, there is still a lot of work to do. This week, both riders plan on working extra hard to improve their results and look forward to posting some strong finishes in the always packed house of Angles stadium. See you there!
